My Story

Annette Swann - BA (PR & Comm), DipMM - Author | CEO, TUFMINDS Life Rescue | Director, Exqisit Life Foundation

LIKES:

Holidays with my hubby, Vegemite on toast, Sunny days by the pool, Karaoke with friends, Laughing hysterically with family and spending time with my gorgeous grandchildren.

I was born in Melbourne in 1965 and suffered horrific third degree burns at the age of 9 whist at a Christmas BBQ. It scarred 30% of my body including my face. Burnt Face: Scarred for Life, tells my story of survival and how I overcame being bullied at school to become a strong and rebellious teen growing up in the notorious suburb of Broadmeadows, known for boisterous youth and gangs during the 70s and 80s.

I moved to Mackay with my parents and three year old son in 1991 to begin a new chapter in my life. I met my husband, Jason in 1992 and after a 12 month friendship we began a romantic relationship which continues to this day. I still live in Mackay with my husband our three grown children Shay, Reyan and Brydee and their respective partners, Kim, Danielle and Jordan and our grandchildren, Zoey, Riley and Kelly.

I attained a degree with high distinctions in Public Relations and Communications in 2010 as well as a Diploma of Multimedia. I am a freelance writer and editor and have over 15 years experience in Public Relations, Marketing and Business Management. I was the General Manager of Mackay GP Superclinic Group from 2013 to 2021 and currently the CEO of TUFMINDS Life Rescue, a not for profit Suicide Intervention and Wellbeing program created by Drs John & Elizabeth McIntosh (aka Barefoot Doctors Sailing).

I was also a Goodwill Ambassador for the South African non-profit organisation: CAMPIO Burns Group, who raised awareness of burns abuse and accidents.
